John Peers has claimed Gold for Australia! Pairing up with Perth’s Matt Ebden, the Aussie duo put on an impressive display to defeat American’s Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek 6-7, 7-6, 10-8 at the Paris Olympic Games.

John Peers has claimed Gold for Australia! Pairing up with Perth’s Matt Ebden, the Aussie duo put on an impressive display to defeat American’s Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek 6-7, 7-6, 10-8 at the Paris Olympic Games.

“For me to be able to do that and say we’re gold medallists ,I mean, doing it for the green and gold in Australia and the people back home, that’s what we play the sport for” Peers said.

John joined Kooyong in 2001 through the Kooyong Foundation scholarship program, going on to represent the Club in State Grade pennant and Premier League over the years.

He attended Middle Tennessee State University and Baylor University in America and has carved out an impressive professional doubles career which has featured two Grand Slam titles, the Australian Open in 2017 and the 2022 US Open mixed doubles title with Storm Sanders. He claimed a bronze medal with Ash Barty in the mixed doubles in Tokyo at the 2021 Olympic Games.

The gold medal will be one to saviour for the rest of his life “To win a gold medal… I think it’s like folklore” said Peers.
